Enable POP in Outlook.com

Back when Outlook.com first came out I signed up for an account as many people did.  I did this mainly to reserve the name I wanted but I never really used it.  Well, today I decided I would setup the Outlook.com account in Gmail so I could check it and use it for other stuff I didn’t want to use my main email for.

When I went to add the Outlook.com address to Gmail I got the following message: Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password.

So this brings us to the main point of this article.  How to enable POP in Outlook.com so you can sync it with other mail clients.

  1. Log into Outlook.com
  2. On the top right-click the cog/wheel and select Options
  3. Under Managing your account, select Connect devices and apps with POP
  4. Under POP select Enable, you will get 2 options after that where Outlook will either allow messages to be deleted or move them to POP folder when they are access by the other mail client.
  5. Click Save and you’re done.
